A New Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Range Featuring An Innovative Production Method
Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries have two important advantages over other lithium-ion chemistries and those are thermal and chemical stability, both of which improve battery safety.
Safety and reliability are key aspects of an energy storage device, including batteries. This cannot be determined or evaluated by one criterion or parameter. Rather, it is determined by the implementation of complementary approaches that work together to enhance safety and reliability. As this approach is applied to batteries, thermal stability is perhaps the most important of several parameters that determine the safety of Lithium Iron Phosphate cells, modules and battery packs. As energy increases, designing safe battery packs and cells becomes more challenging.

To meet requirements Super B developed a new Lithium Iron Phosphate battery range with an innovative production method. As Super B demands to have a high-quality standard, the company has its own production facilities in the Netherlands. To achieve this, Super B co-operated with several highly qualified institutes and companies. Lithium Iron Phosphate is used for the Super B battery, which is the safest and most reliable type of Lithium technology available today. A specifically developed bespoke housing and BMS guarantees, even more, the safety and reliability of the batteries.
To produce the safest battery we believe in passive safety, this means that even without electronics the battery should be safe. On top of that, we add electronics to make the battery even safer and more durable.
To achieve a high passive safety we take great care of the materials used and the construction of our batteries:
- Cells: We only use the highest quality LiFePO4 cells available today
- Battery Pack: Optimized use of materials and construction to provide maximum safety and performance
- Casing: The super B casings are specially designed for its environments. In an event of a cell failure, there will be no visible damage on the outside of the battery.
- Electronics: All our batteries have internal electronics which makes the batteries even safer and more durable.
The diverse products and services of the marine industry are used for recreational, commercial and defense activities. Maintaining the electrical power source systems is, as you might expect, one of the most important activities in all these usages. Batteries need to deliver many different power needs. There can be a need for infrequent to frequent use or to power single or multiple electronic accessories. These varying needs directly affect the type of service required by a marine battery. This is why Super B has produced a full range of batteries, ranging from 3.2Ah to 160Ah which can be used up to 1150V in series and unlimited in parallel. Surely this will provide solutions for all these varying needs.

This day and age we have measured facts regarding the impact we have on our environment but this also gives us the opportunity to measure the improvements we can make and to create innovative and sustainable technology solutions.
The super B batteries will be undergoing the certification by CANOpen which means that they are capable of supporting mission-critical operations, even if that product in and of itself is not related to the mission-critical functions being conducted on the CANOpen backbone. Data messages are transmitted as a series of data frames, each with robust error checking, confirmed frame delivery, and with deterministic transmission times.
Battery Management System
To make this new solution come full circle, these new generation batteries have a Battery Management System that controls electrical distribution within the battery pack and protects against over- or under- voltage conditions as well as excessive current or temperature.
The Super B Battery Management System (BMS) has the groundbreaking capability to be able to adopt the balancing according to the battery charge and discharge current, as well as the series balancing of individual batteries in case of a string of series connected batteries, in which it takes care of the balancing of each individual batteries without the need for extra cabling.
In other words, the batteries are being monitored on its state, calculating secondary data, reporting that data, protecting the battery, controlling its environment, and balancing it. This is done by transmitting battery alarms and information to the CAN interface and to the external I/O contact for overvoltage, under voltage, deep discharge, overcharge and temperature control and complete battery performance history.
It goes without saying that the safety and consistent performance of these batteries is our major priority. The Super B Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are unrivaled in their longevity. It is after all the best technology in term of life cycles, compared to lead-based equivalents as well as other LIthium chemistries like NMC & NCA. The Super B Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries provide excellent performance through high energy density along with reduced weight. A single Super B battery weighs up to 80% less than conventional batteries and is smaller in volume. It is fast charging: up to 1C and has a very low self-discharge rate of only 10% per year. This makes the Super B batteries the popular choice.
