Romain Febvre and Aleksandr Tonkov of Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing have taken over the first two spots in the Dutch MX2 Series. In round three of the series in Axel, Romain finished second overall and took over the championship lead from the injured Glenn Coldenhoff. Aleksandr Tonkov missed the overall podium by only two points but with fourth position overall he moved up to second position in the standings.
The track in Axel was well prepared. In practice both riders took their time to get used to the track. In the closing stages of the session both riders set their fastest times and finally it was Romain who ended the session in second position and Alekandr set the sixth fastest time. Both riders took a good start in the opening moto and started the race inside of the top five. Romain worked his way up to third position in the beginning of the race and Aleksandr took over fourth position. Romain tried to pass Jordi Tixier for second position. Unfortunately he couldn’t make a pass stick and lost his rhythm a little bit. Romain kept calm and finished the race in third position. Aleksandr had a lonely ride in the first moto because Romain had a small gap over him and Aleksandr wasn’t able to close it down. After a consistent race he crossed the finish line in fourth position.
In the second moto it was Aleksandr who came out of the first lap in first position. Despite the fact that his riding went really well he got passed by Jeffrey Herlings and his team mate Romain. Aleksandr was riding a good pace and was able to held on to third position till the chequered flag waved. Romain did a great job as well but wasn’t able to fight with Jeffrey Herlings for the win and finished the moto in second position. Romain finished second overall with a 3-2 in the motos. Aleksandr ended the day in fourth position. Romain is leading the series after three rounds and Aleksandr sits in second position at the moment.
On Sunday both riders participated in the international race in Wuustwezel, Belgium. Romain finished second overall with a 2-2 in the motos. Romain had a great battle with Damon Graulus in the second moto and managed to win this battle. Aleksandr finished in fourth position in the first moto. In the second moto he took a poor start and had to come from behind. He was riding lap times which were the same as Romain’s lap times and he fought his way back to fifth position. With a 4-5 in the motos he finished fifth overall.
Next weekend Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing will participate in round six of the World MX2 Series in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands.
