Mika Ahola increases championship lead with dominant performance in Turkey

Mika Ahola has increased his championship lead and tightened his grip on the E3 title with a dominant performance in Turkey, which saw him take victory on both days of the event.
In a hot climate, with temperatures consistently above 35°C, Ahola was once again the rider displaying more concrete, consistent pace. With precision and focused determination to drive on to the end goal and towards his first E3 title.
On Friday, Mika finished first with nearly half a minute ahead of runner-up, winning five of the twelve special stages and scoring second position in another five. Saturday was even more assured because despite winning only one of the thirteen special stages, Ahola virtually monopolized the top three places, merely to control their unassailable advantage in the last two laps of the four.
It is this kind of consistency, which is a crucial factor in winning championships, and Ahola certainly looks to be on the right course as the season enters it second half in Greece next weekend.

Mika Ahola, Honda HM Zanardo:
“It was a very good race. I made the point of gaining a good lead in the overall championship. Let’s get away from Turkey aware of having done the most, but in Greece next weekend, we still have to work more to earn more points over our rivals. The bike was perfect and I rode hard on the ground using the best possible set-up from the team. I was always very fast at all special stages. I hope to continue this in Greece.”

Franco Mayr, Honda HM Zanardo: “Ahola never ceases to amaze us all of us at Honda HM Zanardo. In every situation he can stay focused. This gives us motivation and the psychological push that leads us to our next victory time and time again.”
