Kuipers - Hagman do well in WRC Rallye Deutschland

Posted on 6th Sep 2010 @ 4:56 PM

René Kuipers had a good weekend at the WRC Rallye Deutschland with the
Ipatec Racing Subaru Impreza S14. Apart from a great race he fought a
thrilling battle with his son Dennis in the Fiesta S2000. Unfortunately his
regular co-driver Erwin Berkhof had to withdraw at the very latest moment
due to illness, luckily they were able to contact experienced co-driver Kees
Hagman to replace him.

The Twente Ipatec Racing team had been working extensively on their
preparation for this World Rally Cup race around Trier. Beforehand they
tested in the area where the rally was held with the Subaru S14. In
Brauneberg the team had exclusive access for one day to one of the official
test trials, to work on a good setup of the car. Also on the Sunday before
the rally the Ipatec Racing had a lot to the test on a test track between
the vines at Veldenz. "Road handling is perfect and it sounds great
"according to René Kuipers prior to the start. The team also had the
advantageof the light and powerfull Super B battery, which was perfect from
start to finish.

On friday two stages were cancelled because of crashes, a reason for the
team to be careful and wait and see how  the rally would develop. After this
first, cautious day they stil were 31st in the ranking. After 8 hardfought
stages on saturday even a small crash couldn't prevent Kuipers from
climbing to the 27th position, whilst being in a battle for seconds with his
son Dennis Kuipers.

The third day saw Kuipers focussing on ending the rally and maintaining his
position. Without taking too much risk even was able to take the 25th
position in the final ranking, a great result for the Dutch team.
