super B rider Mika Ahola conquers Greece

Posted on 6th Sep 2010 @ 4:20 PM

After a break of two months the Enduro World Championship comes back to excite his public with the sixth seasonal test.

Theater of this great weekend is Serres, in Greece, where also last year the world of two wheels stopped. This city is famous in the enduro world since 2008, when it has been the theater of the 83° Six Days. It is situated in the Central Macedonia, about seventy km from the Greek coast. Once crucial point for the way from Salonicco to Constantinople, Serres has been marked by the domination of different conquerors.

Structured on a track of fifty-five km to repeat four times for day, the GP of Greece has ratified the consecration of Honda-HM-Zanardo Team thanks to the performances of Mika Ahola, Oscar Balletti and Fabio Mossini.

In E2 class on Saturday Ahola has finished second with a gap of one second and two cents: once more the competition is a big struggle with the bitter enemy Cervantes. The rider of Honda-HM-Zanardo Team would surely have won if he didn’t fall down in the first special line test, losing over ten seconds, recovered with an epic enterprise. The ransom has arrived on Sunday: Ahola has been extraordinary, he has dominated the competition as a leader ending first in front of Salminen. A great victory, like a real World Champion, that brings him to consolidate his first position in the world standing with 288 points and a gap of thirty on Cervantes.

From E2 class other great satisfactions arrives thanks to Balletti, who has been the best Italian of this class. On Saturday he has finished sixth, about ten seconds from the possibility to enter among the first five; while on Sunday he has done better conquering the fifth place.

Negative beginning of competition for Mossini, who races in E1 class. In fact in the first day of competition he has been forced to the withdraw after a fall during the second turn in the special line test. Stunned by the blow, he has preferred to go on his competition on Sunday, where he has closed with a great eighth position.

“It has been an exciting weekend” - the first words of Franco Mayr at the end of the competition – “The beginning of the World Championship after two month of break has been a success! I’m really happy of all the riders: Mika is ratifying his domination; Balletti is conquering important points and Mossini it’s always a surprise. I would say thank you to the whole Team and to the whole staff of Honda Saracakit of Athens, importer and distributor in Greece of Honda CRE. Thank you particularly to the marketing manager Vangelis Loukopoulos for the support in this GP of Greece”.

Next date with the Enduro World Championship is next week with the GP of Turkey.
