MAP Raceways Yamaha’s Billy McConnell has qualified in fourth place for the third round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Donington Park this weekend.
McConnell is currently leading the hotly-contested series by just two points and he will be going all out tomorrow to consolidate his slender lead.
Billy said: “Everything feels ok and I’m riding hard so I’m not sure where I’m losing that little bit of time. We have good race pace and I’ve been putting in consistent times. I’m happy with front row but pole would have been nice. I’m sure in the race we will be there.”
His team-mates Lee Johnston and Allan Jon Venter had a mixed qualifying session with Lee qualifying in 18th and AJ maintaining 20th thanks to a crash. AJ high-sided on the exit of the Melbourne Loop, landing heavily on his right shoulder. He is ok but will have to take a medical tomorrow morning ahead of the race.
Lee said: “We had a few problems early in the weekend which has held us back. The times I put in during second qualifying I should have put in during first qualifying so I feel I’m a session down. We’ve got the electrical problem sorted and the feedback from the data is good. I’ve been told to expect damp weather tomorrow and I go well in the wet. Also the further back I qualify the harder I’ll ride. I want a top 10 to top five.”
AJ commented on his crash saying, “I was running comfortably in 14th place when, on the exit of Melbourne, the bike just came round and spat me off. I’ve hurt my shoulder joint and my neck is a bit sore. I’m now back in 20th but see how I feel tomorrow as I’m determined to race.”
The Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport race will take place tomorrow at 15:30.
