Barstow, CA – FMF KTM Factory rider Ivan Ramirez finished 2nd overall at round two of the AMA National Hare & Hound Series after a crash approximately 15 miles from the finish line cost him the lead.
The course for the second round was much rockier than the first round of the series. The race was 80 miles total with two loops of 40 miles each. Ramirez launched off the start line to a great start and was 1st overall at the end of the long bomb run. Factory FMF KTM support rider Gary Sutherlin, who won the opening round, was sitting in 14th at the end of the bomb.
Within the first five miles, Sutherlin had moved into the top five but shortly after stuck his front end in the ground hard which jarred his wrist. Sutherlin tried to ride through the pain but was unable to hold on and was unable to finish the race. He will seek medical attention to get a proper evaluation on his wrist.
Ramirez continued to charge out front and maintained the lead for three-quarters of the race before he crashed in a rock section approximately 15 miles from the finish. The 2nd place ride of Ricky Brabec passed him while he was recovering from the crash. Ramirez caught back up to Brabec but was unable to pass back for the lead and finished 2nd by just a few seconds.
After two races, Ramirez now sits 2nd overall in the point standings behind Brabec.
