Round 3 of the 2015 EnduroCross saw a new winner for the third time in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada. An excited crowd filled the stands and welcomed Mike Brown with a birthday celebration and Colton Haaker with a Rockstar welcome.
The track in the Orleans Arena was about 40 seconds long, dry and hard packed. The course was challenging and made for some good racing.
Out of the gate, Haaker and Brown were running 1st and 2nd. The two rode out front and set the pace ahead of the other contenders. Haaker continued to lead putting in solid laps until lap 8 when Cody Webb passed him. Haaker didn’t let that stand for too long and made a great block pass, taking the lead right back. From the point on Haaker put consistent laps together and stretched his lead until the finish.
“I had a great day! I felt great, my bike ran great, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! I look forward to the next round and aim to extend my points lead,” said Haaker.
On lap 4 Brown crashed in the treacherous log pit, but remounted and returned to 3rd place. On the next lap he again encountered difficulties in the wood pit and piece of wood became lodged in his swing arm. He lost several positions, finishing 9th.
“I am pretty bummed with what happened. I felt like I was riding great all day, but had a little trouble in the wood pit. I look forward to the next round,” explained Brown.
In the Women’s EX class, Sandra Gomez Cantero of Madrid, Spain, claimed another first place victory for Husqvarna and currently is 5th in points.
