Berlin/Zandvoort: Berlin team Mücke Motorsport reached the top ten with both its Dallara Mercedes at the prestigious "RTL GP Masters of Formula 3" in the Dutch Zandvoort on Sunday (15th July). Zandvoort and Formula 3 newcomer Pascal Wehrlein (Worndorf) finished as a very good fifth on the 4.307 kilometre long track in the North Sea dunes. His Swedish team colleague Felix Rosenqvist, having won last year's race here, crossed the finishing line as ninth. Victory was had by Spaniard and current Formula 3 Euro Series top of the table Daniel Juncadella (Dallara Mercedes).
"It's a brilliant result for Pascal, considering he'd never been on this track before. Our rookie coped incredibly well in a very strong starter field", so team manager Peter Mücke. Wehrlein, sponsored by the ADAC Sports Foundation and the Deutsche Post Speed Academy, and supported by Super B, started the race from position six. One place ahead of him was Felix Rosenqvist. The Swede delivered a very good start, had worked himself to a third place but was pushed aside, falling back to ninth place, which he managed to hold onto until the finish. "Felix took the only possible option: he attacked straight away at the start to book a podium place - afterwards, overtaking is next to impossible on Zandvoort's circuit", explains Peter Mücke.
Rosenqvist and Wehrlein now concentrate on the second half of the season, armed with strengthened confidence. The sixth season event of the new FIA Formula 3 European Championships is due to take place from 26th to 28th July in the Belgian Spa-Francorchamps. The EC table currently lists Rosenqvist as fifth with four points directly ahead of Wehrlein. Station five of the Formula 3 Euro Series will take place from 17th to 19th August at the Nürburgring. Mücke pilots occupy places four (Wehrlein) and seven (Rosenqvist) in this league, with Mücke Motorsport listed as third in the team ratings.
